PLANS IN FOR WILLENHALL’S NEW TRAIN STATION

by danielbarker on 13 March, 2020

The long awaited plans for the new train station for Willenhall have been received by Planners at Walsall Council.

Cllr Ian Shires said: Have to say I am more than a little disappointed with what I see. It does look less than inviting and more than a little Spartan in facilities for would-be passengers.

Shelter is the bear minimum and for those walking or using buses it’s a long walk from the centre of town. The only provision for buses is a stand in the car park off Rose Hill for the bus replacement service. That doesn’t bode well does it?

I have had discussions with National Express West Midlands about getting some of the existing bus services to link into the new train station. I have also discussed with officers at Walsall Council and the Combined Authority the importance, not only of good passenger facilities, but also ensuring services from the new train station provide those vital links to Universities and Colleges across the wider West Midlands.

Opportunities like this don’t come along every day, it’s so important for the regeneration of Willenhall to get it right in time for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

We will keep you updated with progress.
