I agree with Jo – Corbyn should not be a caretaker PM

by danielbarker on 16 August, 2019

New Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson has declared herself ‘adamant’ that Jeremy Corbyn’s ‘plan to make himself caretaker prime minister was a non-starter.’

She went on to say: ‘All the evidence is that Jeremy Corbyn does not have the support of enough Conservative MPs to command that majority’. She called the idea ‘nonsense’, and I have to agree with her.

Corbyn has presided over an exodus of many members of his own party (including MPs) and has helped boost Liberal Democrat membership in recent years! There is no doubt that fear of a Corbyn government has helped the Conservative Party too. Without Jeremy ‘leading’ the opposition, the Tories would be in a much worse mess than they are now; even in Short Heath, people’s dislike of Corbyn has been spoken of and given as a reason why they are choosing to vote for other parties.

So the idea that Corbyn is a suitable figure to be a caretaker prime minister commanding cross-party support is laughable! Sometimes, pride comes before a fall. Maybe its time Mr Corbyn put the interests of the country before his own ambitions to be prime minister.
