Conservative MPs put themselves above the country

by danielbarker on 13 December, 2018

So instead of allowing their leader to concentrate on her job, to focus on the major issue of our future relationship with the EU, Conservative MPs decided it was time to indulge in a pointless internal leadership vote. In doing so, they once again put their own interests above those of the country.

It was pointless, in that a change in leadership for the Conservatives will not alter one jot the parliamentary arithmetic – whoever is Prime Minister, there will be no majority in the Commons for Theresa’s deal, and we know from the EU themselves that no other deal is on the table.

Tellingly, the Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond called the vote a chance to ‘flush out the extremists’ within the party. Now we know there are 117 of them – over a third of the parliamentary party are extremists who are prepared to see the UK fall out of the EU without the protection of a deal, because that’s what could have happened had they succeeded in toppling May.

So with so many extremists within the Tory Party and the Labour Party being run by the extreme left, that leaves the Liberal Democrats as the only sensible UK-wide party with any representation in the Commons!
