The Party of law and order?

by danielbarker on 1 September, 2015

Conservative Chancellor George Osborne has earmarked the Home Office to find an additional 40% of savings in their budget. It looks as if local policing will pay the price of these cuts.

The Tories may think cuts to the police force are an easy answer to the defecit problem as according to the latest data, crime is at its lowest level since the survey began in 1981. However fear of crime is still a real issue and an issue that residents will often raise. With the additional cuts that will invariably be made as a result of the Conservatives Budget announcements, police forces are going to be further hit and there will be changes to visible police patrols.

Steve White the Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales comments:
“To impose further drastic cuts without a fundamental restructuring of how policing is organised would leave the service in real danger of being unable to properly protect the public.”

And the Tories call themselves the Party of Law and Order?
