Yesterday, Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Olney moved and passed a so-called “Ten Minute Rule” bill on Proportional Representation. This is a historic day for fair votes: never before has a motion on electoral reform passed in Parliament. We are grateful to Sarah and our parliamentary party for leading the charge and to MPs from other parties across the Commons for supporting the bill.

We expect a First Reading of the bill on 24th January next year. While it would be truly extraordinary for this to pass into law, this vote has shown the clear strength of support in Parliament.
