Here are the final motions of this Conference which were passed this morning: |
F38: Emergency Motion – Implementing the Recommendations of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 ReportIn the seven years since the Grenfell Tower Fire, the Grenfell community have repeatedly called for justice, while the conclusion of the investigations into the tragedy have been delayed for too long. The UK Government must now fully implement the recommendations from the inquiry’s report so that lessons can be learnt, further tragedies can be prevented, and justice can finally be delivered for the victims and their loved ones.Find out more ➜ |
F39: The Clean Water AuthorityRegulators and the former Conservative Government have not held water companies to account for their failures to maintain and improve water quality and create sustainable funding structures. Water companies want to increase customer bills by an average of 33% by 2030 to fund improvements to infrastructure, when they have paid out millions in bonuses to executives and failed to make sound investments. Conference calls for the replacement of Ofwat with a new regulator, the Clean Water Authority, which would have stronger powers to enforce regulations, mandate transparency, and hold water companies accountable. We must ensure that customers no longer bear the cost of these companies’ failures, water poverty is eliminated, and our environment is protected.Find out more ➜ |
F41: Tackling Child PovertyHundreds of thousands of children are trapped in poverty after years of chaos and economic damage by the Conservatives. Scrapping the two child cap would be the quickest and most cost-effective way to lift children out of poverty and bring long-term benefits to our society and economy. Children do not choose to be born to parents who already have other children and it is unfair to design the system that punishes them. We will continue to call for the removal of the two child limit and lift half a million children out of poverty.Find out more ➜ |
F42: A Fair Deal for Family CarersThe UK’s 10.6 million unpaid family carers are the backbone of Britain’s social care system. They do a remarkable and important job in very difficult circumstances. The previous Conservative government took unpaid carers for granted and have not provided them with the support they need, and now many are facing extreme financial hardship. Too many unpaid carers are being caught up in the scandal over carers allowance repayments. Tens of thousands of carers are facing repayments – punished for working and earning just a few more pounds than the earnings limit. Liberal Democrats will deliver a fair deal for unpaid carers, by stopping pursuing carers for Carer’s Allowance overpayments, raising Carer’s Allowance, and introducing paid leave for carers. We would give unpaid carers the support they need to care for their loved ones and to live their own lives to the fullest.Find out more ➜ |
