……Now let’s hope the newly elected Parliament does a good job!

I really wish the new government well in tackling the various problems they have committed to, such as securing economic growth and finding a more humanitarian replacement to the disastrously expensive Rwanda scheme. It would be nice to have a government that actually worked!

I do worry about a potential lack of long-term vision in government however. Hopefully, over time, they will commit themselves to other matters such as tackling the huge inequality in this country, the fact that the last decade has seen a huge growth in both foodbanks and millionaires.

It is also quite obvious that our electoral system is in need of reform. How can a party with only 35% of the vote get such a huge overall majority?

Time will tell whether the new government will do something about these issues. If not, there will be another election in 4 to 5 years time….
