More evidence if you needed it from this article in “The Week” on line this morning of the effects of Tory “small government” policy applied to our NHS and Social Care services. Yet another step down the road towards a 2 – tier health service and privatisation along the lines of US health care based on profit, not need.

The government hopes to recruit a “new volunteer army” for social care to “ferry medical equipment and drugs to people’s homes in a bid to free up congested hospital wards”, said The Guardian. Members of the public will be able to sign up on an app for roles such as “check in and chat”, involving telephone support for people struggling with loneliness. There will also be a “pick up and deliver” role, helping to move medicines or small items of medical equipment to people’s homes so they can be discharged from hospital.

The longer the Tories stay in power, the worse this gets. Ordinary folk should be demanding that a No Confidence vote in Sunak and his out of touch out of ideas Tory Government forcing a General Election before more damage is done. Already there is ample evidence of patients being discharged from hospitals who are subsequently left to fend for themselves at home for hours during the day and abandoned over night. This is no way for a so-called rich nation to treat vulnerable patients and their families.
