Eddie Hughes, the Walsall North MP and junior minister has remained firmly behind the PM and insisted it was now time to move on.

He said: “The PM won the vote. Now he must be allowed to get back to work, growing the economy and levelling up the country.”

A spokesperson for Walsall North Liberal Democrats commented on Mr Hughes’s statement:

“ There’s certainly not much evidence of growing the economy or levelling up the country across Walsall North.

It was shocking to see local Conservative MP Eddie Hughes remain loyal to Boris Johnson in last night’s confidence vote. By supporting a law-breaking and lying Prime Minister, he is insulting people of Walsall North who had abided by the rules, many having to make heart breaking sacrifices during the pandemic.

“The fact that Eddie Hughes is a Junior Minister on Boris Johnson’s ministerial payroll and therefore dependent on the PMs patronage has not gone unnoticed by his constituents. As well as feelings running high due to the law breaking surrounding PartyGate, many more are fuming at the lack of any real help or decisive  action coming from the Government on the worsening cost of living crisis.

Mr Hughes needs to ask himself whether voting for Johnson was done with his or his constituent’s best interests in mind?
