Women and Problem Gambling Training

Walsall Council is working with GamCare to raise awareness of problem gambling and have set up two accredited training sessions in Walsall for professionals, partners and community groups.

Dates:

  • 31st March 2020
  • morning session – 9.30 am – 12.30 pm

or

  • afternoon session – 13.30pm – 16.30 pm
  • Venue: Council House, Walsall Town Hall
  • The programme is open to everyone who may come across people at risk of gambling so please promote this widely across your networks.

The aim of this training is to raise awareness of problem gambling and how it affects women.

  • Also to make professionals aware of risk indicators, screening methods and  to increase professional confidence in asking questions around problem gambling in order to identify need for support.
  • Attendees will also have an increased awareness of referral pathways for local services.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand what problem gambling is
  • To understand why women gamble, the barriers to support and ways in which women prefer to access services
  • To be able to identify risk factors and common beliefs that can lead to problem gambling
  • To understand how gambling impacts someone’s life and the life of others
  • To be able to identify warning signs and indicators of problem gambling
  • To be able to screen for problem gambling
  • To know where and how to refer people to support.
