Key Individuals Network / Engagement Meeting with WM Police

Key Individuals Network (KIN) – West Midlands Police

Dear Friend and Colleague

In order to police effectively we need to engage with the communities we serve and to have effective two-way communication.
One way we do this is through the Key Individuals Network (KIN). Having a good Key Individuals Network will provide an opportunity for us to exchange information, be aware of changes in community tension and of local issues. It also provides a channel for us to give feedback about what we are doing to tackle identified local issues.

To do all this we need the right individuals to join the KIN. Such people have a knowledge of, and/or influence in their local community. Key Individuals should be able to present their own views, and those of the community they represent. They are selected for their knowledge, experience, and life skills. Key Individuals may be called upon to assist with critical incidents. However there will normally be no commitment to attend meetings.

So who are key individuals?
• They may be local professionals, e.g. doctors, teachers, councillors or youth workers.
• They may be community or faith leaders.
• They may be active citizens, people who work or volunteer in their communities, in all sorts of ways.
• They may be local business people, local shop owners for example.
In fact they can be anyone who can realistically speak on behalf of the community they represent. They need not live in Walsall.

We have recently reviewed our KIN and identified areas in which we need to recruit new members, be they geographical locations, faith or ethnic groups, or other areas of diversity such as LBGT, disability or age. In particular we need young people to join the KIN.

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in joining the KIN please let me know.
All we need is for you to fill in a short form, so we are aware of what matters we may consult you on, and which communities you represent.
As I’ve already said, there will be normally no obligation to attend meetings. Contact will usually be by email or phone.

Many thanks.

Kevin.

Engagement Meeting with WM Police

Dear Friend and Colleague

I am seeking a number of volunteers representing Walsall’s diverse community to take part in an engagement focus group that will take place on Thursday 21st February at Bloxwich Police Station. The focus group will start at 6.30pm and will last approximately one hour. A light buffet will be provided.

The aim of the focus group is to assist our Corporate Communications department review how we engage and communicate with the public with the aim of making each interaction as positive as possible and to make the best use of our resources. The event will last approximately one hour, during which participants will be asked four questions with answers fed back as part of a group.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in taking part in the focus group please let me know. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated and will help form the basis of our future engagement and communications strategy. It should also be a lot of fun.

With best wishes.

Kevin.
