Whatever comes eventually out of the delay Mrs May has forced upon the Commons and indeed the country, no-one will forget what a shambles this Tory Government has become.

Within the space of a few hours, Cabinet Ministers were forced to change their stories from ‘no the vote is going ahead’ to ‘no it isn’t’. At 11.07am yesterday, lobby journalists were told by a No.10 spokeswoman that ‘The vote is going ahead as planned’, but 23 minutes later the Bloomberg news service reported that the vote would be called off.

And does anyone seriously believe this delay will enable this deal to be voted through?

All this delay will do is postpone the defeat so it is fresh in people’s minds when they come to vote in next years elections.

The whole country is now screaming, whatever the result, get on with it!
