Universal Credit – 13,300 will be affected in Walsall North

by danielbarker on 18 October, 2018

What’s your view on Universal Credit? 13,300 people will be affected as Universal Credit is rolled out across Walsall North. Many of those affected will be working but currently get support because of their low incomes. The average income across Walsall is £22,000, but there are many who earn less than that.

Universal Credit begins to be rolled out in Willenhall and if experience elsewhere is anything to go by there are going to a number who will be worse off even though perhaps they are in work. In those areas where Universal Credit has already been rolled out, it has left a trail of hardship, hunger and poverty in its wake.

Things have been so bad that even Tory MPs now are starting to demand changes. So what of our Tory MP here in Walsall North, what are his views on the subject? From what we have seen on social media he’s been quoted as asking the Minister responsible for all this mess if he would join with him in endorsing the work of Walsall Housing Group (WHG), the very business where he was the Chairman of the Board before becoming an MP, and its ‘Rent First Programme’ which will help tenants to prepare for transition to Universal Credit.

That kind of says it all doesn’t it? What comes first for our Tory MP? So long as WHG are getting their rent in does it matter to him if having paid the rent there is precious little left to feed the family or put clothes on their backs?

Join with us in calling for him to demand of the Prime Minister he so much admires to fix Universal Credit and bring an end to the misery it has caused in the hands of the Tories.
