It’s that time of year again – Don’t be fooled!

by danielbarker on 29 January, 2018

You may have noticed an increase in activity locally from some politicians from other political parties who you probably haven’t heard from for some time. The reason for the increased interest in you by these politicians is that there are local elections this May. Thursday 3rd May to be precise.

The thing to remember about these elections is that they are Local Elections. The clue is in the name Local. The Conservatives are trying to persuade you that these Local Elections are all about Brexit. They most certainly are not. The referendum in 2016 and last year’s snap General Election decided that.

If you want to get embroiled in the arguments raging within Mrs May’s Conservative party about should it be hard Brexit or soft Brexit indeed no Brexit at all then how you vote on 3rd May won’t make a blind bit of difference – it’s a Local election, about Local issues which directly affect You here in Willenhall.

Those who voted for the conservatives in last year’s general election based on their views on Brexit also voted for continued austerity or in plain English they gave Mrs May’s Conservatives permission to continue cutting the funding to Local Councils for vital services such as Social Care, Children’s Services, Refuse Collection and Roads.

For the past two years we have worked hard within the local LibDem/Lab Coalition to make what funding we do get off central government go as far as possible. As a result, this year there will be no new service cuts in the council’s budget even though we have had a cut to grant funding off the government.

Don’t throw all this hard work away by getting involved in the row which is raging within the Tory Party. Go and vote on Thursday 3rd May but remember to vote on who is doing their best to protect Local Services against an onslaught from a government who couldn’t give a damn about the likes of you and me.
