Strong and stable? They must be joking!

by danielbarker on 20 April, 2017

So the Tories are seeking re-election on the grounds that they are ‘strong and stable’. In truth, the past two years have been years of weakness and flip-flop. Let’s examine their record………….

Having been previously in favour of staying in the EU, Mrs May is now proposing the most drastic of changes, pulling the UK out of an economic market that has been the bedrock of British trading success over the past 40 years. Will arguing for an end to the free movement of people bring stability to the NHS which is so reliant on nurses coming from the EU?

Within 12 months of fighting the election on one manifesto, the Tories ripped it up by pledging to bring back grammar schools. With other changes to testing, exams and the national curriculum, our schools are not getting the stability they so badly require from this Government!

Having previously assured their constituents that they would not introduce a third runway at Heathrow, the Government flip-flopped, backing a proposal that is bad for the environment and will overheat the south-east instead of putting the investment where it should go, the Midlands!

Stability would mean investing in our local authorities so they can do the job that people expect them to do. Instead, the Tories seem determined to cut local government off from such investment, causing them to carry out the most radical changes ever seen in our lifetimes just to meet the obligations heaped upon them.

Then there’s this election itself. Once again, Mrs May has said one thing and done the opposite.

From the evidence, I would suggest that if you want ‘strong and stable’ government, Theresa May’s Conservatives are the last place you should look!
