Contrast our democracies

by danielbarker on 30 September, 2015

Its clear Mr Corbyn wants the UK to give up its nuclear deterrent. But did Labour debate the issue at their conference? No.

Many people within the Liberal Democrats – including myself – think the nuclear deterrent should be got rid of as it is a very expensive relic of a different era. The difference? We debated and voted upon the issue at our conference. (As an aside I think NATO gives us suitable protection from invasion should we ever need it, and I don’t understand where Mr Corbyn thinks our protection shall come from without NATO!)

The Liberal Democrats is still the most democratic party out there. The Labour Party – despite having an arguably more radical leader – is still a party that indulges in stage management and stifles debate for the sake of the cameras.

Yes, we are a party of the mainstream, but to all you fellow radicals out there considering Labour, contrast our democracies and our commitments to making the UK a more democratic place in which to live. I know which party I’d rather be in!
