Getting lots of feedback this morning from the elderly who are furious that Walsall’s Labour controlled Council is telling them that they have to start paying for their community alarm systems.

Letters started dropping on to doormats this week informing users of the system that they now have to pay for the privilege of having this life saving service. Many older people have told me that they are asking that the service be removed rather than pay what the council is demanding.

The service charge has been introduced by the Labour administration as part of a raft of swingeing cuts they introduced with the help of the Tories at a stormy budget meeting back in February in Walsall’s Council House.

Liberal Democrats on Walsall Council voted against Labour’s budget proposals accusing Labour of hitting the very people Labour had pledged to protect in their 2014 Manifesto, the vulnerable and the elderly. The Tories liked Labour’s budget so much they voted for it.
