Lord Mandelson has said that Labour’s plans to introduce a mansion tax on homes worth more than £2m is ”crude” and would end up ”clobbering” people. The former Cabinet minister went on to say that he preferred the policy drawn up by the Liberal Democrats which aims to charge more tax on high-value homes. The peer’s comments come after an anonymous poll commissioned by the British Property Federation showed that 39% of Labour MPs believed that introducing additional council tax bands would be a better way to tax high-value homes.
