Growth in the UK’s construction sector rebounded in September, according to the ONS, following recent months of weaker data. Output rose 1.8% on August, and 3.5% on an annual basis. August’s figure has been revised up, to 3%, from previous estimates that activity shrank 3.9%. On a quarterly basis, it grew 0.8%. The rebound was driven by the housing sector, according to the ONS: “While there was strength in private new housing during this period, public new housing was at its highest monthly level since the series began in 2010, and its quarterly level was the highest since the series began in 1997”.
