Government figures have revealed a dramatic reduction in the amount of school days lost to term-time holidays, with an estimated 2.5m lost this year, compared to 3.3m in the previous year. The reduction is attributed to measures introduced last year that meant term-time leave could be granted only in exceptional circumstances. The figures also show that the overall absence rate has dropped more than a quarter since 2009-10, currently at 4.4%, and that absences due to truancy or sickness have also declined.
